Asking for blood donations with Carter BloodCare in lieu of wedding gifts
TYLER, Texas (September 19, 2017) – When you meet bride-to-be Caitlin Campbell and her fiancé Lathan Pilcher, you can tell they think of others first. She is a radiology technician and he is a firefighter – both in helping professions. Carter BloodCare has an incredible pool of volunteer blood donors, some of whom have given gallons over their lifetime – saving hundreds of lives in the process. Caitlin Campbell and Lathan Pilcher are among these selfless individuals. They met on March 18, 2013 at Carter BloodCare’s 50-gallon Challenge blood drive at the Tyler Junior College. So, when the couple decided to tie the knot, they adopted the 50-gallon theme and are inviting others to do what they were doing when they met – give blood.
In lieu of wedding gifts, Campbell and Pilcher have opted to receive blood donations from family, friends and anyone in the east Texas community. They issued a 50-gallon Wedding Challenge, a first in the history of Carter BloodCare’s donor centers.
The Campbell/Pilcher 50-gallon Challenge is a “blood drive” at the Tyler Donor Center, instead of on a blood donation bus. The center’s hours are from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, beginning September 19, at 815 S. Baxter Avenue. When donors present themselves at the Tyler (or Longview) Donor Centers, they just need to tell the staff that they are giving for the 50-gallon Wedding Challenge, or the ‘wedding blood drive’ or for the ‘Campbell-Pilcher’ wedding party. They may also use the sponsor code SPON105609. As long as donors indicate in some way that they want their blood donation to count for this happy couple, it can go toward the 50-gallon Wedding Challenge. Donations can be made in honor of the happy couple through October 30. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Carter BloodCare at (903) 363-0424.
“Our blood drive is for all family, friends and anyone else in the community who would like to participate,” said Caitlin Campbell, the bride-to-be. “Just donate at the Tyler or Longview Carter BloodCare locations and mention our 50 Gallon Wedding Challenge. It means so much to us that folks would want to honor our love by saving lives.”
Campbell and Pilcher are also inviting those who give for their 50-gallon Challenge to post a picture of their donation, with ##50GallonWeddingChallenge on social media to show love and support.
